We’re not missionaries, but if you’ve spent any time around us, or you’ve read our blog, you know the spread of the Gospel is the most important thing in our lives. So what is our role when it comes to global missions?
We’d like to take a moment to answer this question, because it’s important to us that our supporters understand exactly what we do and how we do it.
The Mission of Doulos Partners
Whenever we tell someone what our official mission is, we say that we exist “to reach the maximum number of people in the shortest amount of time in the most cost-effective way.”
What does that mean, though? When you get down to brass tacks, how are we accomplishing that mission without actually being missionaries?
We work with native believers in each country, in partnership with established organizations, to plant churches in places like India, Cuba, and many more. In other words, we’re not sending American missionaries to India and supporting them there (although we believe that what they are doing is well worth all the support they receive!). Instead, we’re partnering with church planting organizations to fund individuals who are natives of that country to start a church and lead people to Christ.
Why Is This Effective?
When we partner with established church planting organizations, we’re coming into a situation where the organization already has a relationship with the people in a specific country. Then, the evangelical work is done by a person from that country – not someone from the United States or another unfamiliar place.
The reason we use this approach is because it eliminates so many obstacles. We’re not spending time worrying about local customs and cultural norms. We’re not having to gain the trust of the people before we can start a church. The native pastor already knows the customs and norms, and because he is one of the people, he already has their trust. We’ve skirted some major issues simply by working with the people God has already placed in these countries.
So, How Does Doulos Support These Pastors?
The basic idea is this: we act as a mission’s mutual fund by sending resources to the places where they will get the largest return on investment. We give our partners the things they need, like financial resources, prayer support, education, accountability, and encouragement through short-term mission trips.
We make the church plant possible by giving our resources to make it happen – and 100% of the donations we receive go straight to the field.
