The Issachar Initiative: How Businesses and Ministries Are Connecting to Fulfill the Great Commission

issachar initiative

In September 2017, business and ministry leaders from across the city of Birmingham, Alabama, came together to learn how they could take part in reaching the ends of the Earth. The Issachar Initiative summit was held at The Club in Birmingham as a way to engage these city leaders about the urgency of the Great Commission–and how they can work together to reach those who still need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Doulos Partners is excited to live out our mission and continue to be a part of movement in Birmingham to fulfill the Great Commission.

Doulos Partners and the Issachar Initiative

The Issachar Initiative is named for the men of Issachar in 1 Chronicles who “knew the times”. Likewise, this initiative is bringing like minded ministries and business leaders who know the times and heed the urgency of the Great Commission to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. Knowing the longstanding commitment of Doulos Partners to engage business leaders and empower indigenous church planters to take the gospel to those who need to hear, local Issachar leaders invited Doulos to be actively engaged in the planning and execution of the missions strategy.

Doulos Partners is the local missions partner in conjunction with our partner, Biglife, to reach ten unengaged, unreached people groups in Cameroon. David Johnson (Doulos), along with Bill Slappey (Slappey Communications, and Kevin Moore (Missions Birmingham) are heading up this connection of local leaders so that their resources can be used to reach these ten groups in the next three years.

Work has already begun on the ground in Cameroon, as leaders from across the greater Birmingham area are joining together to take the gospel to the ends of the Earth and fulfill Christ’s calling in the Great Commission.
