If you were watching a small child fall into a swimming pool, would you walk away? Of course not. Even if it cost you something valuable – a nice pair of shoes, a wallet, or a phone – you would still dive in to save that child from drowning.
What if it only cost you a dollar?
By donating one dollar to Doulos Partners, you can save one soul. $1 = 1 salvation. We rely so much on your donations, and we need your help if we are to make a difference in this world.
As Christians we are called to give and help our brothers and sisters, but more often than not we miss this calling. For the first time in history, it is now within the reach of a common man or woman to influence the ministry in Africa, India, China… the entire world!
The Christians of the developed world face a profound choice: if we are not to turn our backs on a population that does not know God, we must become part of the solution.
Why Christians Sometimes Don’t Donate
The book The Life You Can Save by Peter Singer discusses the reasons people tend to not donate, and I’d like to share a few of them with you now:
The first is often called the “bystander effect.” This human trait allows us to assume that someone else will do what needs to be done.
Researchers in one experiment found that 70% of participants who are alone and heard sounds of distress from another person in an adjoining room responded and helped. When two participants were together, the response rate to the sounds of distress fell significantly, in one case to a mere 7%.
The second reason we tend not to donate is because we all become easily overwhelmed by the extent of need. Psychologists term this “futility thinking,” and many people reach the futility threshold fairly quickly. Researchers suggests that this phenomenon may be due to a feeling of guilt about the people one cannot save in such a situation.
Taking Action and Making a Difference
With so much need in the world, it’s not surprising that many of us don’t know where to start. Furthermore, we often let ourselves “off the hook” if we think that others will pick up the slack.
If we continue to think that someone else will donate, no one will.
We need you for our efforts to be successful. It doesn’t matter how much you give – it matters that you give at all. A single dollar is enough to change a life.
Your donation will ensure that we can continue to send our partners to spread the Word. Your donation goes directly to resources they need to continue and expand their work. Your donation will save a soul.
Will you give today? For every $1 you donate, at least 1 person is led to salvation. Help us to save souls and change lives.
