As The Church prepares to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ, we enter a time of reflection, reverence, and renewal. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us on the Cross at Calvary for our salvation. He willingly offered His life that day, taking on the sins of the world, paying the price of a debt we could never afford, and giving us access to eternity in heaven with God.
“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.” –Matthew 27:50-51
The veil in the Temple signified a separation between Holy God and sinful mankind, a barrier that could only be torn by a perfect sinless sacrifice on our behalf.
“When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it be given to him. And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.” –Matthew 27:57-60
Jesus’ death and burial seemed to indicate Satan’s victory. The Hope of the World appeared to have been eliminated. However, we are blessed that the Story did not end there. God had a beautiful and wonderful plan. On the third day, The Stone Was Rolled Away to reveal an empty tomb.
“But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where he lay.” –Matthew 28:5-6
Jesus’ resurrection provides the promise of new life for all who accept Christ as Lord over their life. His resurrection proves several imperative truths to the world. He is THE Son of God, He paid for every sin on that Cross, He offers us salvation, He was fully man and fully God with authority to impute His righteousness on us, and He has the power of eternal life.
"After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.” –Acts 1:3
When we accept Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection as our only hope for eternity with Him and give our lives to Him, we can truly be free from the slavery of sin and can then live a sanctified and changed life by the power of the Holy Spirit.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.” –Acts 1:8-9
